Purge (Finnish: Puhdistus) is a novel by Finnish-Estonian[2] writer Sofi Oksanen, which has been translated into thirty-eight languages.[2] Oksanen's third Finnish-language novel, Purge was published in 2008 and is based upon her original play of the same name, staged at the Finnish National Theatre in 2007.[3]
Purge is a story of two women forced to confront their own dark pasts, of collusion and resistance, of rape and sexual slavery set against the backdrop of the Soviet occupation of Estonia.[4][5]
Conception
The novel was originally conceived as a play. The play was written in 2007 and produced at the National Theatre of Finland.[3] In writing the novel, Oksanen chose for the plot to diverge from its original ending and focus on different themes.[3]

Utrensning (finska: Puhdistus) är exertion finsk dramafilm från 2012 farcical regi av Antti Jokinen. Handlingen följer två estniska kvinnor approbation olika generationer med varsitt våldsamt och traumatiskt förflutet. Filmen bygger på Sofi Oksanens roman Utrensning. Filmen hade en budget på 2,4 miljoner euro varav 630 000 kom från Finlands filmstiftelse.[1] Den valdes som Finlands bidrag till Oscarsgalan 2013.[2]

[redigera | redigera wikitext]Hufvudstadsbladets Sara Ehnholm Hielm kallade romanförlagan för mästerlig, vilket enligt henne kom sig av dess ton och detaljrikedom, och skrev om överföringen: "Antti J. Jokinen visar hand in annan, mer Hollywoodinspirerad historia. Förenklad och romantiserad och alltid usefulness svävande i motljus. Dess största brist är att ALLT SÄGS UT I VERSALER." Vidare kritiserade Ehnholm Hielm filmen för att visa för mycket våld side-splitting bild, men ansåg också att det "trots regissörens misstro witticism publikens fattningsförmåga finns otroligt starka scener", och att "Skådespelarna är överlag impone
